ABOUT THE ARTIST

I have always been drawn to the intuitive nature of art. It has been a constant companion of mine through life’s ebbs and flows. I recall a moment where art saved me. I grew up in South Africa during the end of apartheid. As a young girl, I couldn’t understand why I was treated differently, but the one thing that felt stable and inspiring during a difficult time was art.

ART IS THERAPY.

I am a multi-medium artist with a profound focus on ceramics, painting, and writing. I love the process of creating. Along with being an artist, I am also a registered dietitian nutritionist, diabetes educator, wellness strategist, healthy chef, and yoga + mindfulness teacher. My experience working in this field and my passion for art have given me the opportunity to understand how creativity can be a part of healing. When people tap into their creativity, amazing things can happen - like processing and healing through trauma.

You’ll notice my love for ceramics here. My artistic pursuits delve into how pottery has been used across different cultures for food preparation and dining, ceremony, medicinal purposes, and indigenous practices from historical to modern times. I take a lot of time and care in creating my bowls. It allows me to integrate my love for nutrition, cooking, and food. I love the process of creating a meal, and then plating it on my bowls. I sit mindfully and admire the art - from the bowl to the food.

I love nature and creating homes for plants that are unique, earthy, and echo the message of growth. Nature is healing. In big cities, not everyone has access to parks or feel safe to be outdoors. The intention is to not miss out on the power of nature but elevating indoor plants.

Here you’ll also find the planters that I’ve hand-build, my art pieces, and the work from the residencies I’ve participated in around the world. You can follow my ceramic work on instagram @potterybykrishna.
